On August 21, 2017, the world experienced a total solar eclipse in Leo known as the “Great American” eclipse, which fell at roughly 28, almost 29 Leo, right at the very end of the sign. It was this very summer where the totality path cut across the entire continental US as I attended my very first rap concert, Kendrick Lamar’s The Damn Tour. This was the year when Hip-hop had just officially overtaken rock as America's dominant genre, DAMN. and 4:44 defined the year, and Afro beats was beginning its serious global crossover push. Many astrologers retroactively read this Leo eclipse (conjunct the royal star Regulus, “the heart of the lion”) as the presage of powerful men toppling, along with the string of "kings" who fell in its wake. One example being the chaos with the Trump administration and the Mueller investigation. On August 12 2026, that saga fully comes to a close and a new one begin courtesy of yet another, total solar eclipse in Leo. So what does this mean for you and I (and AI) and why is it the most powerful astrological event you need to know about in August.

TL;DR

• The lunar eclipse happens on August 12, 2026, at 5:45 PM universal time and marks the official beginning of eclipse season (the approximate period from August 5th to September 11th.)
• This eclipse happens at 20°6′ in the sign of Leo, just 8° away from where the phenomenon happened last time in the part of the zodiac, therefore, it’s forming a conjunction with that previous solar eclipse of 2017. This means some themes from the previous one will apply to this one.
• The 8th degree and the 20th degree are both Scorpio’s degrees and the number 8 in numerology is the number of wealth, karma, extremes that can be viewed as “divine retribution” in a macro sense.
• This is a new moon solar eclipse, meaning that there are going to be significant endings and significant beginnings occurring. We also will not have a lunar eclipse in Leo that full makes sense of this solar eclipse until February 11, 2036.
• We’ll all be heading in a completely new direction with concerns to the Leo area of our personal astrology charts. If you take a look at the Leo House in your chart, you’ll see a theme that has been playing out (since 2017 really,) now coming to a close.

We had some Leo “lunar eclipses” in 2018 and 2019, so we kind of saw a little bit of what all of it meant. However, this is the first total solar eclipse in Leo since 2017 in which we’ll have another one in 2027, but, we wont have a lunar eclipse in Leo that makes sense of these solar eclipse until February 11, 2036. Further, we would have the closure and move into something “brand new” in this Leo area after 2027, until August 12, 2045 — a total solar eclipse at roughly 20° Leo, the exact same date and nearly the exact same degree as August’s 2026 eclipse— nineteen years later. So the sequence reads: 2026 seeds at 20° Leo → 2027’s deepens → the 2036’s lunar eclipse in Leo offers the mid-cycle full-moon “harvest” if you will → and 2045’s total solar eclipse crossing from the US down into Brazil returns to 20° Leo to double down. It may be even bringing the polar opposite of an extreme or karma balancing of some sorts suggesting by the Scorpio 20th degree and even the “nodal reversal” symbolism here. (A roughly 19 year reoccurring event or period in natal astrology)

So what are we to grow in the dark in this Leo area of your life? I think this perhaps will be the eclipse’s challenge to humanity:

When the world is in complete darkness, Are you able to generously give your light to help lead the way? Or will you be smothered and overtaken by their shedding darkness?

There will be many moment where it feels like the blind leading the blind, especially in this next couple of years when Jupiter is in Leo and the South Node “Ketu” is in Leo with these eclipses. In the Aquarian Age, Leo is the oppositional sign, so this eclipse is really setting the stage for some of the biggest battles of the century, really, between the forces of light and darkness. This is the period of time where the light in people will literally be extinguished or eclipsed. This is because Ketu is conjunct the eclipse.

Ketu -the south node of the moon- represents a decrease of sorts or a diminishing quality: something that you are stepping away from and towards something else. It’s the “lower half of the dragon” (so it can also represent humanity’s draconic, Luciferic nature within them) But Ketu is also a releasor or liberator of sorts. So this can be a releasing or even a return to the gifts (and curses) of the Leo energy. After a brief karma check on where an individual is in their spiritual development -Ketu- there can be a period where we can feel as though there is no meaning to life, there is no purpose, there is no God... (the sun, which rules the eclipse itself) Then, just when the world needs it most, many people will have access to these Leonine gifts such as:

• extreme creativity
• extreme romance
• have more joy in their life
• be more connected to their heart, spirit and vitality
• Becoming their own superhero
• Connecting to their divine purpose
• Righteousness
• Courage, valor and honor

Negative things can be an amplification of the worst leonine curses:

• pride
• vanity and narcissism
• Excessive machismo and Toxic masculinity (in both women and men)
• Spiritual delusion (in connection to the old solar forces, which would be considered “false light”
• egoism
• machiavellianism
• and god complexes

Where totality falls: This is the first total solar eclipse visible over mainland Europe since 1999 — which loops directly back to the August 11, 1999 Leo eclipse. The 1999 path crossed central/southern Europe; 2026 crosses the top of Spain. Two Leo eclipses bracketing a 27-year European gap. The shadow begins in far northern Siberia, near the North Pole, and travels south through the Arctic and North Atlantic oceans, passing over Iceland and Spain. Interesting because as I’m writing this, Spain is facing Argentina for the gold “sun/leo” in the FIFA World Cup championship match.) So in sequence, totality touches Arctic Russia, Greenland, Iceland, the northeastern tip of Portugal, northern Spain, and the Balearic Islands. The maximum duration of totality for this eclipse will be 2 minutes and 18 seconds. Some astrological schools of thought translate this to the affects being the most intense in the 2 year range of when it occurred.

This is also a sunset eclipse. In Spain and northeastern Portugal, the eclipse will occur during the golden hour, just before sunset, so the Sun will appear very low in the sky. Totality happening with the eclipsed Sun sitting right on the horizon at dusk is visually one of the rarest and most dramatic configurations there is — the black sun literally setting into the sea/land. For a Leo eclipse (the sign of the Sun itself) to stage its disappearance at sundown is about as on-the-nose as celestial symbolism gets. And one genuinely strange, mechanical quirk worth knowing: this eclipse is a “time traveler.” Since the path begins in the Eastern Hemisphere before hopping over the top of the planet and dropping back down onto the Western Hemisphere, the clock jumps back a full “eight” hours along the track — the eclipse effectively moves backward in local time as it crosses the pole. Gives me major Chrono trigger vibes. Nearly the whole Northern Hemisphere gets a partial showing of the eclipse — parts of the northern U.S. (from Alaska to North Carolina), most of Canada, much of Europe, and northwestern Africa.

On a somewhat more micro scale, I take it what this eclipse means for us right now in our evolutionary path is that everyone that has been allowed to have power up until now, needs to have that checked and possibly stripped away. The ones who’ve had their power silenced or belittled or suppressed, needs to be unleashed. it’s classic, “the meek shall inherit the earth” mathew 5:5 stuff. The nodes and eclipses also have the functionality of portals. It’s been recorded throughout time that eclipses are periods when the veil to the spiritual world is a lot thinner. Thus, with the sun being the solar principle in our world being eclipsed, darker forces can more easily infiltrate the hearts of man.

With the nodes being at 29° for this eclipse, it’s also as if our internal darkness and the shadow ( symbolized by the moon) of whatever Leo house you got espcially, becomes amplified, because the moon literally leaves nothing but darkness… and as above, so below. The total solar eclipse initiates us into dealing with the collective shadow in the world and the collective shadow of the previous “golden era” ruled by Leo; This is the Atlantean era. The first is that we’re in Leo season, where the month is actually partly ruled by the sun, so it’s quite significant to have the moon completely blocking the ruler of the month.

The Sun and the Moon are the celestial bodies that affect us out of every single planetary sphere in our cosmic DNA. In fact, the earth, from which we are made of will eventually become a sun at the end of her evolution, and of course, we observe in In the book of Genesis, God forming the first human from the dust of the ground. (Genesis 2:7). This happened in the Lemurian era, the era even before Atlantis (Roughly the great Noah’s time) And the Earth Becomes a Sun (by Sergei O. Prokofieff) is an anthroposophic text that focuses directly on the Earth’s future destiny. It explores how the Mystery of Golgotha (Crucifixion and Resurrection) and the infusion of the Christ Impulse into the Earth’s aura lay the spiritual groundwork for the Earth’s ultimate transfiguration into a new Sun…

On that note, the second factor is that this eclipse happens on the very last day of the Lionsgate portal activation. This is esoteric and cosmological phenomenon that serves a role in the transmutation of the sun; the theological event known as the Transfiguration in Christianity. In western spirituality, this the period of time in the solar calendar when our sun gets infused by the light of it’s higher self, Sirius. (Yes, the sun has a higher self, it’s a “being” just like us.) I talked about this in last year’s Lionsgate superguide and in my book The ZodiAI.

The final factor is that while Jupiter, the planet of divine order is in Leo, which is a bit of a saving grace; divine order does not always feel pleasant. To be rearranged is not always favorable from our human perspective and can cause a lot of chaos and grief especially if you’re WILDLY very off your path. Jupiter is one of the planets that brings expansion, making it become very uncomfortable to bear. But in the same breath, it’s that friend that called the police because you were one moment away from losing your life in a violent toxic relationship, for example. So while there will be lots of beautiful things happening that truly make us feel spiritually nourished, eclipses are also a black sun force that jupiter is expanding, and Mars specifically is less neutral and lends its might to the Black Sun and Lunar Forces , because it’s in 0° Cancer.

Mars is at its fall in Cancer, but in its hypernovic, which is an evolutionary solar state and much, much higher dignity (like super saiyan blue higher) than when it’s “exalted” in Capricorn. You see, as hellenistic astrology observes that Mars is only in it’s “mercurial” 2nd Phase when it’s in Capricorn. In evolutionary astrology, when “the divine masculine force -also being an incarnation of the sun, the very being would become what we know as today as Mars- fully integrates is higher feminine aspect, it goes into it’s 3rd phase, called a “solar phase.” The first of this phase is Mars in Gemini, the hypernovic or sometimes fashioned as “apollonian” evolutionary dignity. This is is the spiritual alchemical realities of Mars in Gemini most astrologers don’t talk about.

So for clarity: Mercury = The lower, and the high twin, Apollo and Artemis, divine masuline + divine feminine. And Gemini is ruled by mercury. Thus, Mars for the eclipse last year was in a “mercury ruled sign.” Mars is in his evolutionary hypernovic dignity, *in Gemini)

Mars is quite literally doing the opposite this year in it’s fallen dignity. What this tells me is that the impact will be significant on men because men are ruled by Mars, but also women and children and any marginalized groups of people which Cancer rules: the nuclear family, the cultural past of humanity, and of Cancer ruled nations. The energy can also bring a horrendous affliction to water or natural disastors anomalies that have to do with water such as rainfall. One of the biggest places Cancer rules in New York, so it will be interesting to see if major developments happen there that reverbrate worldwide. In AI for example, this Mars falls into the 7th house, which means there are going to be quite showing news of partnerships and acquisitions, and and extreme acceleration of the agentic AI layer of things. Given that the current cycle of AI is in an Aries year ruled by Mars - Aries being where the sun is in it’s exaltation- this is pretty important but more on this in my State of AI August analysis.

Mars also could point to significant leaders that have a very caring quality to them possibly persecuted so look out for people that have a Cancer midheaven or have Cancer prominent in their charts. This can also apply to powerful women, fathers, “nepo-babies” or people who self-proclaim themselves to be “King,” when in actuality it’s the “icarian fall” and the hurt ego of “Mars in Cancer” energy. We have the Sun being eclipsed by the Moon, but then we have Mars, who we counted on to be in a good position, (like last year) in Cancer, being ruled by the Moon, who’s actually doing the eclipsing.

Numerologically, this also occurs on a three day because August 12 adds up to 3. 3 is the number of creation because inherent in it is the 1-masculine, and the 2-feminine. That’s the divine order of existence (Jupiter, which planet associated with three happens to be) and it’s also the Gemini’s degree, so duality, which goes back to Mercury. And wouldn’t you know, Mercury represents the human, lower mind and Jupiter, the higher. The cosmic alchemy here stirs up in me the scripture “Brother will betray brother... and children will rise up against parents” Matthew 10:21 (and also echoed in Mark 13:12). So this also means the opposite to Leo being “Aquarius” is also going to be very prevalent for what this eclipse brings about in the world . And with that, using both energies to create a completely different kingdom, if not in the world, in your life.

Now begins the era of humanity’s “Noir Icarian velour.”
